Prowlers Capture 2nd in Camarillo Thanksgiving Tournament

After going 2-1 in pool play over Thanksgiving weekend, the Prowlers returned to action 2 weeks later after numerous weather delays. After defeating their inter-city rivals, the Simi Sliders, in the semi-final game 9 to 5, the Prowlers came up a bit short in the championship game, losing to the Conejo Mavericks by a score of 4 to 3. Neverthless, it was a terrific showing.

Prowlers Don't Impress at Hacienda Heights

Prowlers come out flat against two good teams on Saturday and pay the price, losing 9-1 to Corona Dodgers and 11-3 to Chino Hills Titans. The bats come alive the next morning as Prowlers pound out 13 hits in 16-6 victory over Long Beach Athletics. Next up Sylmar where Prowlers look to improve upon this lackluster outing.

Prowlers Blow to 2nd Place Finish at Big League Dreams Park

The Prowlers advanced to the championship round in Riverside by winning both games in pool play, 20-0 over the Fontana Kings and 13-8 over the Inland Empire Street Dogs. The team braved 75 MPH wind gusts to prevail against the Street Dogs on Saturday night.

In Sunday's semi-final game, the Prowlers rode solid pitching and timely hitting to beat the Murrietta Mavericks 5-2 and advance to the championship game against the Simi Sliders.

The Prowlers started quickly against the Sliders, posting 3 runs in the top of the first, only to surrender 4 in the bottom of the inning. The Prowlers pushed a run across in the top of the 2nd to tie the game. Sloppy baserunning in each of the next two innings, coupled with tough Slider pitching, shut the Prowlers down the rest of the way as the Sliders avenged an earlier loss at Camarillo to capture the championship 9-4.

The Prowler's runnerup finish capped a memorable weekend for both players and parents.

Prowlers Miss SYB Championship Game by Tiebreaker

The Prowlers entered play in the SYB President's Day Tourney with reduced expectations as several key players were missing from the regular roster. However, with the remaining regulars coming up big and with valuable contributions from Shane Blanchard, Justin Garza and Raul "Little" Rodriguez, the Prowlers went 2-0-1 in pool play to just miss qualifying for the Championship Game.

The weekend was highlighted by Monday's exciting 5-2 victory over the SYB Dodgers as Brett Hale and Adam Barry combined to shut down the hard-hitting Dodgers on only 5 hits. A great ending to a most rewarding travel season!

In what can only be described as a weekend to write off to experience, the Prowlers were named champions when, with the Prowlers leading the final game 3-1 in the top of the 2nd inning, the opposing coach was tossed (to the delight of all!) and took the bases with him. The antics of one did not tarnish the Prowler's accomplishments as they outscored the opposition 45 to 7 in route to the championship. Prowler pitching was superb, with Brandon Gooding, Gunnar Fillerup, Sean Alvord, Ryan McDonald and Jake Whitaker mowing down opposing batters all weekend. Brandon and Sean provided the power with 5 home runs between the two of them. Ben Burg also added a big home run in a victory over the host Outlaws. Congratulations to the Outlaw players who played well all weekend and kept their poise in the face of their coach's incessant tirades.

Champions Again!
Here’s how the games went:

Prowlers 7 Encinitas Reds 6
In the game of the tournament, carsick Prowlers dig a 6-0 hole for themselves only to charge back Angel style in their last two at bats. Sean Alvord starts the comeback with a monster 3-run shot to centerfield in the bottom of the 5th. Prowlers score 4 more in the 6th, all with 2 out as Gunner, Jake Dahlstrum and Brandon all deliver clutch hits. Brett relieves Brandon in the 4th and holds the Reds to one run to get the win.

Prowlers 5 Fontana Tornados 2
Sean Gilmartin starts and goes 4 strong innings and combines with Sean A. to 3-hit the Tornados. Matt has two hits and Gunnar and Adam both double.

Prowlers 9, South County Monarchs 2
In what proved to be a preview of the championship match up, Prowlers come out swinging and never look back. Brandon goes 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Ben and Sean G. also drove in runs. Sean Alvord reaches safely in every at bat and score 3 runs. Jake Dahlstrum doubles. Jake Whitaker pitches 5 innings of 5-hit ball for the win and Adam pitches a scoreless 6th.

Prowlers 6, San Diego Aztecs 5
In an exciting see-saw game, Prowlers survive a late scare to prevail against the Aztecs. Ben turns in defensive play of tournament diving into hole and throwing out Aztec runner to help preserve victory. Brandon turns in another 3 for 3 performance while Brett goes 2 for 2. Jake Whitaker, Adam and Sean Alvord add hits. Workhorse Sean Gilmartin goes 5-plus innings to notch another win.

Prowlers 9, South County Monarchs 5
Prowlers meet the Monarchs again in Championship and prevail in game that finally concludes just before 11PM. Prowlers build leads of 5-0 and 7-2 but Monarchs stage a 3-run rally in the 6th aided by some lackluster Prowler defense. Brandon comes in to strike out two with bases loaded to squash Monarch threat. Prowlers bang out 10 hits in all. Sean Gilmartin and Adam Barry go 2 for 2 with extra base hits. Brandon also doubles and Gunnar, Jake Whitaker, Matt, Sean Alvord and Brett all add key hits.
Orange County

A long weekend but a very rewarding one! Congratulations Prowlers! You have established yourselves as one of the premier 13 year-old teams in Southern California.

Sean Alvord slammed a solo home run (and added two singles) to provide the only run. Matt and Jake Whitaker each had two hits.

Prowlers 7 Camarillo Wreckers (14 year-old) 6
Jake Dahlstrum and Ben Berg had two hits each and Sean Alvord tripled. Gunnar returned to the mound to strike out the side in the last inning to preserve the win.

Prowlers 8, Orange County Crush 1
Prowlers open pool play somewhat sluggishly but score four runs in last inning to put away Crush. Sean A. opens scoring with an RBI double and Graham scores 2 with clutch single. Sean G. and Brandon combine to two hit Crush while striking out 10. Ben makes great backhand play to squash late Crush threat.

Prowlers 15 Santa Monica Scorpions 3

Prowlers 5, Torrance Bravos 0
Prowlers earn #1 seed and face #4 seeded Bravos in semi-final game. Prowler pitching and a 4-run 2nd do in the Bravos. Prowlers 5, Placentia Mustangs 6
Prowlers make their 6th straight championship game appearance but come up short in a very exciting game. Prowler take leads of 2-0 and 3-1, then fall behind 5-3 and 6-4 before rallying to put winning runs on base in bottom of the 7th. As we've come to expect, the Prowlers battle back but in a controversial finish, have two runners thrown out at the plate to snuff late rally. Prowlers have 10 hits but strand 12 runners. Brett keeps Mustangs at bay in 3 strong innings. Gunnar continues his hot hitting going 4 for 4 with 3 extra base hits. Jake adds two more hits.
